Member of Parliament for Takoradi who doubles as the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has commissioned a new cold store for the people of Amanful a suburb of Takoradi in the Western Region.
The cold store which is worth 90,000 Ghana cedis is part of the MPs efforts to support fish mongers in the area.
The project is particularly meant to provide refrigeration to the women to complement the work they have been doing over the years to save them from post harvest loses.
It is also to boost their earnings and improve their living conditions.
The cold store is also to help the fishmongers maintain the freshness of their catch to earn good prices on the market.
Sekondi-Takoradi has a high records of fish consumption but sometimes the people are not able to meet the demands due to lack of storage facility to refrigerate the fresh fish for supply.
Years of lack of cold store for the people have impacted negatively to their businesses as fishmongers.
Mr. Okyere Darko-Mensah promised to continue to support the fisher folks to enhance their works for better lives.
He outlined some of the projects he has executed over the period to enhance development in the constituency.
The Assembly Member of Amanful East Electoral Area in the Takoradi Constituency, Prince Arthur urged the women to maintain the facility to prevent it from breaking down.
He therefore advised the electorates to desist from any act that will destabilize the peace of Ghana before, during and after the December 7 general elections.
The Queenmother of the Takoradi Market, Nana Efua Ntwuwa who expressed gratefulness, promised to ensure that the facility is kept is maintained to a good condition to serve its purposes.
