Junior Staff of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly who is occupying the Takoradi Council quarters, has been asked to vacate the premises before the end of August 2020 to allow the relocation of traders at the Takoradi market for the construction of the redevelopment of Takoradi Market.
The Takoradi council quarters which sit on a six-acre land around Ahenfie hotel in Takoradi is among the four (4) sites identified by city authorities to provide a temporary market for the traders who will be affected by the redevelopment of Takoradi Market.
Attempts by the assembly junior staff to get the Member of Parliamentary for Takoradi who doubles as the Western Regional Minister Kobina Okyere Darko-Mensah to intercede for a three months extension of stay and at least three years rent advances as compensation all did not materialize.
Meanwhile, STMA has paid about five million, eight hundred and thirty-two thousand Ghana cedis (5,832,000) as a two-year advance payment of rent for seventy-one staff occupying the quarters.
It is expected that by the end of October 2020 traders will begin relocating to the place allocated for resettlement of the traders.
Other places allocated for the relocation of the traders are behind ECG, opposites Dadzie’s bakery and Amanful-Main Spain.
The President, Nana Akuffo-Addo on Wednesday, August 19 2020 cut the sod for the construction of the redevelopment of Takoradi Market at the cost of 48 million euros.
